In the first quarter of 2021, several leading music and podcasts applications displayed distinct trends in downloads and weekly active users on the Android platform in Australia. Here, we provide a snapshot of their performance based on data from Sensor Tower.

Spotify: Music and Podcasts experienced a fluctuating pattern in downloads starting with approximately 12K in the last week of December 2020 and dipping to around 8K by the end of March 2021. Despite the decline in downloads, weekly active users showed a steady increase from 2.5M to nearly 2.7M in the same period.

YouTube Music saw a decrease in downloads from 7.6K in the final week of December to roughly 4.7K by March end. However, the application's weekly active users witnessed growth from about 580K to 652K through the quarter.

Shazam: Find Music & Concerts experienced a downward trend in downloads, starting at 6.5K and ending the quarter at about 4.4K. The app's weekly active users remained relatively stable, ranging from approximately 131K to 143K throughout the quarter.

Amazon Music: Songs & Podcasts also noted a decline in downloads from 7.2K to 3.6K. Its weekly active users, however, showed a slight increase, starting at around 72K and reaching 76K by the end of Q1.

Lastly, SoundCloud: Play Music & Songs downloads varied across the quarter, peaking at 5K in late January and then settling to 4.6K in the last week of March. Weekly active users for SoundCloud displayed a modest growth from 73K to 77K.
